About The Hotel

Tucked away in Newport, this charming inn offers a secret weapon for relaxation seekers: in-room hot tubs that will make your stress melt away faster than ice cream in summer. Not every room has a Jacuzzi, so when you book, specifically request a hot tub suite. The rooms with these private whirlpools are like a personal spa retreat right in your own space.

Guests really like this place, ranking it #15 out of 92 B&Bs in Newport with a solid 4.6 rating on TripAdvisor. What makes it special? Beyond the hot tubs, the inn offers free parking, WiFi, and air conditioning - all the basic comforts you want without any fuss. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and feel more like a friend’s nice guest room than a typical hotel space.

If you’re looking to unwind in Newport, this is your spot. After a day of walking the historic streets or exploring the famous Cliff Walk, you can return and sink into your private hot tub. The water jets will work magic on tired legs, and the privacy means you can relax exactly how you want. Pro tip: Book early, as the hot tub rooms are popular and sell out quickly during peak season.

"🌿 A Perfect Newport Getaway at the Marshall Slocum Inn 🌿 From the moment we arrived, we could tell this was an established and well-loved bed and breakfast — every detail felt thought through. Our room (and our friends’!) was beautiful, spotless, and full of charm. The entire house felt so welcoming, like staying at your grandmother’s home — only with a refined, classic New England touch. We met fascinating guests from all over the world and thoroughly enjoyed the cozy common space — maybe a little too much! Having wine available for purchase and a table perfect for late-night card games was such a treat 🍷🃏. Breakfasts were delicious with plenty of fresh pastries each morning, and all the thoughtful little touches made our stay extra special. I’m even making my husband buy the same mattress for our house because I slept three nights straight — no backache, no tossing and turning — which never happens! Everything about the Marshall Slocum Inn radiates comfort, warmth, and timeless charm. Close to everything! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Newport! 💙"

"A venerable gem in Newport We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Marshall Slocum Inn, and from the moment we arrived were struck by the inn’s historic character and timeless charm. Our room, The Snuggery, was impeccably clean, cozy, and tastefully decorated, reflecting the care and attention given to this thoughtfully and well-appointed property. The common areas, both indoors and out, are handsomely styled and inviting—perfect for relaxing with a book or music after a day of exploring. Breakfast was a delight, with delicious treats to start each morning, and the convenience of free parking was much appreciated. The inn is ideally located in a beautiful and pleasant neighborhood on Kay Street, which branches off Bellevue Avenue—home to many of Newport’s famed Gilded Age mansions. This makes it easy to enjoy everything the city has to offer: the beaches, the harbor, colonial history, dining, shopping, and, of course, the stunning mansions. At the same time, the inn itself provides plenty of comfort for guests to happily while away a few hours simply enjoying its warm and welcoming atmosphere. A special word of thanks to the innkeeper, Mark, who is helpful, affable, and engaging—truly an excellent host. We look forward to a future stay at the inn and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Newport."

"When we arrived, travel weary, Dana’s gracious welcome instantly put us at ease. The coffee/tea, the croissants, and the assortment of pastry every morning was a delightful start to our day. And the small but significant courtesies, like the complimentary jellied candy nook provided a tasty temptation in the evenings. Our bed was comfortable. Our room and bath were nicely decorated, clean, and well equipped with everything we would need. We were pleasantly surprised that The Marshall Slocum Inn was so ideally situated, and within a short walk of one of Newport’s main streets, affording us the opportunity to take the free Newport trolley to the mansions and other attractions. And with a bit more effort, we were able to walk to the shops and restaurants in Thames Street. The Marshall Slocum House is located on a quiet street, which we thoroughly appreciated after a full day of exploring. We’d highly recommend the Marshall Slocum Inn. It helped to make our trip to Newport truly lovely."
